This project was initiated as an exhibition commissioned by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
It later evolved into a lecture series and book. The aim of the project was to document the urban development of District 6, one of the most vibrant multi-cultural and multi-racial urban spaces in the history of South Africa. In the 1970's it was demolished by the Apartheid regime. Although the district was largely a low income area, it possessed a rich urban and cultural heritage. The study sought to understand the dynamics which created this enabling urban environment with a view to incorporating these lessons into contemporary urban developments.
