Motivated by a booming property market, this project featured the recycling and transformation of an existing structure high up on the steep slope overlooking Camps Bay beach. The aim was to create a family home and a separate rental unit that could function either as a business premises or alternatively as a two bedroom rental apartment. The design itself formed an ideal canvas to explore ideas around simple rectilinear elements as part of a strong sculptural composition. One of the main features of the project was the retention of the foundation structure of the existing building. The resulting design has proven to be both environmentally responsive as well as cost effective. Another notable fact is that the entire project took 8 months from sketch design to completion.
