This newly built family home nestles on the wooded slopes of Table Mountain that overlooks the fishing harbour of Hout Bay. The design addresses 3 critical issues: The inclusion of the views to the South and the bay, the mountain and sunlight to the North and the need to accommodate an 8 car garage without appearing obtrusive. The solution was found in building the garages into the mountain side and screening them on the exposed side with habitable rooms. Resting on this base is a light steel and glass structure with a "butterfly" roof inflected to both the North and South. Natural finishes were selected to complement the crispness of the building's structure and promote a sense of timeless quality.
